Any takers?

Your Motorcycle Club, the GS Club of the United Kingdom, is invited to send 3 delegates to the BMF's annual National and One Make Club's forum which is being held on Saturday 29th June 2013 at the Hoskyn Centre, 12 Bilton Road, Rugby, Warwickshire CV22 7AB . The meeting will start at 11am with tea and coffee being available from 10.30. The meeting will finish by 4pm so please bring something for your lunch.

There will be presentations from the BMF's Chairman, Roger Ellis, Anna Zee who is our Political and Technical Services Director and Chris Hodder who is our Government Relations Executive.

We will told what is currently going on in the motorcycling world in both the United Kingdom and Europe in what promises to be a very informative meeting and there will be plenty of opportunity to ask questions and to raise issues or concerns that you or your club may have.

The meeting will also be electing up to 12 Councillors to serve on the BMF Council for the year commencing November 2013.

I attach a delegate nomination form which you should complete and return to Rachel at the BMF office, e-mail is fine, and also a nomination form should anyone from you club wish to be elected as a BMF councillor or for one of the Management Team positions. I have also attached a copy of the minutes from last year's meeting these are for approval at the meeting and the agenda for the meeting will be similar in format to last year's forum.

I look forward to seeing your representatives at the meeting but if your club is unable to be represented if you could send me apologies that would be much appreciated and they will be recorded in the minutes.

Ride Safe

John Gardner
Secretary to the National and One makes Clubs

I have acquired a 2010 single-cam R1200RT (even though I'm not old enough to be riding such a beast) with 78,000 miles on it. It needs a new clutch - a fact that is reflected in the purchase price. Given the mechanical similarity between the R1200RT and R1200GS, I thought I'd seek some collective wisdom.

Question - while the bike is on the bench for a new clutch, is there anything else that I should have done? I assume the seals will be changed. Is it worth replacing the pivot bearing and paralever bearing?

thanks

Mike

It had to happen at some point, so 2013 was the year.
And my 50st birthday was as good an excuse as any so off we went.

I was not on a GS, but Gies was. Kasper and I were on a KTM950SE.

The bikes went to Almeria on a truck and we took a cheap flight, Dortmund to Malaga.

There we rented a car to go pick up the bikes and then we took the midnight boat to Melilla. We had a cabin and when we woke up, it looked like Africa already. People sleeping on the floor all over the place, men washing their feet in the washbowls for morning prayer, water and dirt all over the lavatories, evidence of some sea sickness... Next time we'll probably take a cabin with toilet.

Crossing the border in Melilla took us three hours and then we could get going. After about an hour mister policeman wanted us to pull over. But all he wanted was a chat so that didn't take long.

Lunch stop after some tarmac miles.

And then we got to the first piste.

Piece of cake at first, but then the piste got cut up by numerous small dry river beds and we lost quite a bit of time finding places to cross. It was getting dark quickly and then all of a sudden we were on decent piste again, just in time. The last 20 miles we were in the dark. Luckily I had mounted some extra lights before we left, just in case. Unfortunately we didn't have time to takes pictures at the time.

The next morning Kasper had caca Maroc. So he decided to stay on tarmac to the next town, while Gies and I took off to the next piste across Plateau du Rekkam.

In daylight our hotel looked like this.

In the very middle of nowhere we found a little bunker and three soldiers with their 4x4. Of course they treated us to some tea and showed us their luxury accommodation with all mod cons.

And on we went...

Around noon we picked up Kasper and continued on the next piste, with a pick-nick stop at this abadoned little building.

In the evening we had the first tajine of this trip.

And then we went to the Auberge du Jaffar to find a bed for the night.

There the famous piste "Cirque du Jaffar" was waiting for us.

ONLY 27 DAYS UNTIL THE MAY SHOW!!

GET YOUR TEAMS BOOKED IN NOW FOR THE ALL NEW CLUB GAMES WITH EXCITING MOTO GYMKHANA TWIST!!

Have you booked in for this year’s BMF May Show? Do you have a team of club members that would be interested in competing in this years all new exciting BMF Shows Club Games?

As most of you know the May Show has a really packed agenda which is why we can’t always have a weekend of club games but for 2013 we can now announce that Club Games will return this year (albeit only on Saturday) with a new twist – MOTO GYMKHANA

For those of you who don’t know, Moto Gymkhana claims to be ‘the most fun you can have on a bike!’ (debatable but we’ll let them have it for now!); it requires accurate control, bursts of speed and ruthless braking. Plus ITS FREE! And the bike is PROVIDED for you!!

This is a high-action, technical motorcycle sport that doesn't take itself too seriously. Skill, rider ability, and not horsepower are the keys to steering round a course of obstacles in the fastest time. The competition is open to teams of four and places are strictly limited to just 16 so please submit your team early to avoid disappointment.

Due to the limited number of places, initially only one team per affiliated club will be accepted. If the quota is not filled three weeks before the show we will allow clubs to enter a second team.

To enter please email BMFShows@themulberrygroup.co.uk with details of the club name, names of the four competitors and a contact telephone number. Competitors will need to be available for training at 9.00 am on Saturday morning and the competition will run most of Saturday.

So come and show off your skills for your chance to win prizes that will include: BEER......WHISKEY......and a certificate to say you've tried it!

Entry Requirements and Details:

- Entrants must have a motorcycle license - Full or CBT (both parts must be provided)

- Entrants must wear protective clothing - INCLUDING protective gloves and NO trainers

- Entrants must bring their own helmets

- Entrants will be provided with a motorcycle to enter the gymkhana - AJP Supermoto (125-250)

- Any medical conditions must be stated before entry

- Entrants must be 18 and over

Sharing this from East Mids TRF Forum...

Subject: [emtrf] Peak & Derbyshire Vehicle User Group protest

I know that some members of the TRF in general are opposed to direct action and protests, but for those of you that feel the need to take the fight to the Park Authority then please join me and many others on Sunday 21st April at 2.00pm in Edale.

We are planning to converge on Edale on Sunday 21 April at 2.00pm to provide a show of strength in a popular area, near to some excellent green lanes and to coincide (as near as possible) with the anniversary of the Kinder Trespass.

The Kinder mass trespass (http://www.kindertrespass.com/) was held on 24 April in 1932 and described by Roy Hattersley in 2007 as "the most successful direct action in British history." Perhaps we will need to resort to something similar to make our point. However, in the meantime, please join us in Edale - meeting in the public car park (grid ref: SK124 853) at 2.00pm. The usual Derbyshire car park charges apply: up to 1 hr £1; 1-2 hrs £1.60; 2-4 hrs £3.00.

We will have our trailer hoarding to act as a focal point. If we can fill Edale and the surrounding area with 4x4s and bikes on a popular Sunday, then our presence and message will be seen by many who may not understand the issue. We are hoping to have leaflets available, explaining the green lane situation in the Peak District, to hand to anyone who shows an interest.

There will be no slow drive-around this time, but feel free to join us either by tarmac road or by making it part of your laning day out. There are 2 excellent pubs and a café at Edale. The Penny Pot Café is 20 yards away between the car park and the railway station. The Rambler Inn is adjacent to the car park and the Old Nags Head is a little further along the road to the start of the Pennine Way . Should we be overwhelm the main car park, there is an overspill car park at the railway station and more space beyond that, which is owned by Derbyshire County Council and used by Railtrack.

June 19th at 6:30pm.
Entry £5

Hi Guy's just another reminder for this years mini show at Royston, a great event if you can make it have a look at the web page and let me know if you can make it and we can meet up for the ride in together as a club..

http://www.roystonmotorcycleclub.co.uk/2013show.html

It is a fantastic event which myself and a few of my friends have enjoyed for the past few years. There is lots to see and do for such a short event and if you are local enough to attend its a must.

What will I see?
Don’t forget at the show you will see, amongst the 2000 + bikes that are ridden to the show, the newest bikes from Honda, Kawasaki, Harley Davidson, Suzuki and many more! But don’t forget to go see Stewart Davidson Photography to see a picture of yourself as you ride into the show.

Best in Show
Throughout the evening our judges will be walking across the ENTIRE site to pick the 2013 Show Winners for 8 categories. Could you win Best Custom, Classic, Japanese or even the Best In Show? No registration required, just a good rub with the polish.

Why a Wednesday night?
Why not? The RDMCC meet every first and third Wednesday every month, see our events calendar. The first Show was on a Wednesday club meet, so why on earth would we change the habit of 28 years? Besides we are very proud of saying 200+ bikes turn up to our “little” Wednesday night show!

In Maplins yesterday & spotted some Chinese made heated vests and padded jackets.

They looked well enough made, designed for craftsmen working outside, battery operated, and with a heat cycle of "2 - 3 hours".

And the price?

£3.99 for the vests, & £9.99 for the padded jacket. My Keis vest runs for double that length of time but cost more than twenty times that!

All the best, Jim. :hello1:
